This 1/48 scale set provides 12 Mk.81 general purpose bombs fitted with Mk.14 Snakeye high-drag retard fins, used for low-altitude delivery by aircraft such as A-1 Skyraider, A-4 Skyhawk, A-6 Intruder, A-7 Corsair II, F-4 Phantom II, F-8 Crusader. The Snakeye's distinctive folding fin petals are modeled in the deployed, air-braked position that gives the weapon its recognizable silhouette after release. Bomb body seams, fuze wells, and the retard-fin hinge mechanism are all reproduced with genuine 3D-printed depth rather than shallow engraving. Because a full dozen bombs are included, a complete multi-station load can be built for A-1 Skyraider, A-4 Skyhawk, A-6 Intruder, A-7 Corsair II, F-4 Phantom II, F-8 Crusader in 1/48 scale from a single set. Every bomb is cast identically, so a full wing or fuselage station load looks consistent from one weapon to the next. A standard olive-drab or gray body finish with yellow identification bands reproduces the documented markings for this ordnance type. The retard fins are kept thin and free of the flash that usually plagues small injection-molded fin sets of this scale. This is the correct configuration for depicting a low-level attack mission, where the Snakeye's drag fins prevent the bomb from tumbling into the releasing aircraft. Assembly involves gluing the fin unit to the bomb body and adding the mounting lugs before attaching to the kit's pylons or racks. It pairs naturally with a full pylon or bomb-rack set for A-1 Skyraider, A-4 Skyhawk, A-6 Intruder, A-7 Corsair II, F-4 Phantom II, F-8 Crusader to build up a complete, historically accurate strike loadout. Because the parts are cast in matching batches, there's no need to hunt for parts that don't quite match across a large multi-bomb load. Overall it's an efficient way to arm a Vietnam-era or similar-period strike aircraft with a correct, high-detail ordnance load.
